Staying Active and Staying Safe
Cambridge Police Department Provides Free Safety Vests
As the Fall and Winter months approach, our daylight hours are becoming fewer. According to the National Safety Council more than 70% of cyclist vs. vehicle fatalities happen between the hours of 6:00 and 11:00 PM and the number of pedestrian fatalities increased by 27% between 2007 and 2016. The Cambridge Police Department wants to help keep our community members who walk, jog, and bike through the Village safe. Sgt. Danko said the number one tip he can provide is "be visible" while walking, jogging, and biking around the Village. The Cambridge Police Department, in partnership with Washington County, provides free safety vests to community members. These reflective vests make pedestrians more visible to moving vehicles during the low-light hours and drastically reduce the risk of pedestrian vs. motorist accidents. Any community member interested in a free safety vest can obtain one by stopping by the Police Department at 56 North Park St.
